Sadly, I don't really speak 'boat' 
Even though my Dad had one when I was a kid, and used to take us water skiing at a local lake. I really enjoyed the skiing, but paid no attention to the mechanism that provided the propulsion.
Later on, I heard that a boat may be referred to as 'a hole in the water that you throw money into'. That's been about the extent of my knowledge ever since.
In your case, it seems like you may be throwing a lot of hard work into the hole.
Nevertheless, I wish you luck. Perhaps you are on your way to some water skiing yourself - and thereby making the whole thing a worthy endeavor.
